Coat Care

Brushing distributes natural oils and removes dead hair.

Dogs

  • Short Coat (Beagle, Indie): Once a week with a rubber curry brush.
  • Double Coat (Husky, GSD): 2-3 times a week to remove undercoat shed.
  • Long Coat (Shih Tzu): Daily brushing prevents painful matting.

Cats

  • Self-Groomers: Cats groom themselves, but weekly brushing reduces hairballs (vomiting).
  • Long-Haired (Persian): Daily brushing is mandatory to prevent skin infections under mats.

Safe Bathing

Dos

  • Use lukewarm water (test on your wrist).
  • Use pet-specific shampoo (human pH is different).
  • Place a non-slip mat in the tub/bathroom.
  • Dry thoroughly, especially inside ears.

Don'ts

  • Don't bathe too often (strips natural oils). Once a month is usually enough for dogs.
  • Don't get water/soap in eyes or ears.
  • Don't bathe cats unless medically necessary (they hate it!).

Nail Trimming

Long nails can cause pain and modify the foot structure.

The "Quick": Be careful not to cut the pink part inside the nail (blood vessel). If you cut it, use cornstarch to stop bleeding.

Dental Hygiene

Dental disease affects 80% of pets by age 3.

  • Brush: Use a finger brush and enzymatic pet toothpaste (Taste like chicken!).
  • Chews: Dental sticks help reduce plaque.
  • Raw Bones: Safe, uncooked bones can naturally clean teeth (monitor supervised).
