The Philosophy

We believe in Positive Reinforcement. Be the leader, not the boss.

  • Reward Good Behavior: Treats, praise, or play when they do it right.
  • Ignore Bad Behavior: Don't yell. Remove attention (the reward) when they jump or nip.
  • Timing is Key: Reward within 2 seconds.
  • Short Sessions: 5-10 minutes max to keep it fun!

Watch: The Basics

Dog Training

Essential Commands

1. Sit

  1. Hold a treat near your dog’s nose.
  2. Move your hand up, allowing his head to follow the treat and causing his bottom to lower.
  3. Once he’s in the sitting position, say “Sit,” give him the treat, and share affection.

2. Stay

  1. Ask your dog to “Sit.”
  2. Open your hand in front of you (STOP sign) and say “Stay.”
  3. Take a few steps back. Reward him if he stays.
  4. Gradually increase the number of steps you take.

3. Recall (Come)

  1. Put a leash and collar on him.
  2. Get down to his level and say “Come” while gently pulling on the leash.
  3. When he gets to you, reward him with affection and a treat.
  4. Never punish a dog when they come to you.

4. Leave It

  1. Hold a treat in both hands. Show him one enclosed fist with the treat inside, saying, “Leave it.”
  2. Let him lick, sniff, paw, bark… and wait him out.
  3. Once he stops trying, give him the treat from the other hand.

House Training

The Schedule Method

Puppies have small bladders. Take them out:

  • Immediately after waking up.
  • Right after eating or drinking.
  • After vigorous play.

Praise them immediately when they go outside ("Good potty!").

Accidents Happen!

If you catch them in the act, clap loudly to startle (not scare) them, then take them outside. If you find a mess later, do not punish. Dogs cannot associate past actions with present punishment. Just clean it up thoroughly to remove the scent.
